Menurut rektor, ilmu pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang dimiliki tanpa dibarengi etika akan menghancurkan eksistensi umat manusia. “Alumni UMA yang dihasilkan diharapkan mampu berpikir inovatif serta memiliki moral dan akhlak mulia. Intelektual yang inovatif dan berakhlak dicitrakan sebagai intelektual yang bertaqwa yang dalam kegiatan keilmuan dan teknologi tentunya tak akan melepaskan diri dari sistem nilai dan etika,” tambahnya.
Dihadapan 571 lulusan wisudawan yang telah menyelesaikan studi di kampus Jalan Kolam Medan Estate, Sabtu, 21 Desember 2013, dia mengatakan bhwa alumni yang bermutu adalah alumni yang bisa memenuhi standar mutu pendidikan yang diukur dari seberapa besar manfaatnya bagi stakeholders baik dari kalangan internal maupun eksternal.
Ketua Yayasan UMA Drs. M. Erwin Siregar, MBA mengatakan, UMA telah merancang 5 pilar percepatan peningkatan mutu, telah melaksanakan ISO 9001:2008, telah melaksanakan persiapan AIPT atau Akreditasi Instutusi Pendidikan Tinggi, persiapan sasaran pencapaian nilai akreditasi A pada semua program studi, Sistem Penjaminan Mutu Internal (SPMI) di tingkat universitas dan fakultas serta akreditasi jurnal ilmiah pada seluruh program studi yang ada.
