Faculty of Law, University of Medan Area (FH UMA) held a legal debate contest between students in the faculty’s clinical room, Jalan Kolam Medan Estate, Wednesday (1/16). The legal debate entitled “Realizing Students Who Play a Role in Legal Reform in Indonesia” was attended by 14 groups of FH UMA students.
Appearing as a jury, Dr. Taufik Siregar SH, M.Hum, UMA Faculty of Law lecturer who is also Deputy Director of Student Affairs in the UMA Postgraduate Program, Anggreini Atmei Lubis, SH, M.Hum, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs at FH UMA, and M Yusrizal Adisahputra, SH, MH, lecturer at UMA FH. The legal debate contest was hosted by Beby Suryani Fitri, SH, M.Hum. Present at the event, UH FH Civil Servants Zaini Munawir, SH, M.Hum, Criminal Wessy Trisna, SH, MH, lecturers, and hundreds of FMA UMA students.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law UMA was represented by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs Ridho Mubarak, SH, MH when opening the legal debate competition said that this activity was aimed at making students more active in developing their talents and abilities in the field of law.
Besides training students to provide opinions based on scientific arguments and express opinions based on good ethics.
“This legal debate competition also aims to produce students who are in accordance with UMA’s vision and mission, namely to produce innovative, personal, and independent graduates. If they are independent, innovative, and have a personality, of course graduates will be ready to compete in the 4.0 industrial revolution era, “said Ridho Mubarak who is also an advocate.
The head of the committee Rafiqi, SH, M.Hum, said that the debate discussion is a hot topic at the moment, starting from marital marriages, due to marital law with foreigners, the role of BPOM in online products, buying and selling online, MUI labels on food covers, so that mentally ill people have the right to vote in elections and online prostitution. “The assessment in this debate competition is team cohesiveness in opinion, ethics, or submission of opinions in a good way, and the most important thing is opinions must have a basis or foundation,” Rafiqi said.
The winners of the legal debate were a group 1st with personnel Gomgom, Imelda and Hetdina, group 2nd on behalf of Indrajaya, Noni Zulkarnain, and Doli Risputra Pakpahan, and group 3th with personnel Junindra Dhuha, Alvin Joe and Siti Charunnisa.
